Common questions we receive about our removal services:
Why do you charge a fee?
We get this question a lot. There is this assumption that beekeepers want to come get "Free Bees." There is nothing free about it for beekeepers. To re-home a honeybee colony is expensive. When you calculate everything a beekeeper needs to re-establish a new home for a removed beehive, the annual cost is around $400 worth of responsibility. That includes all equipment and feed. Most removed hives also do not produce a honey crop we can harvest in the first year. So we would have to absorb that cost without a way to recoup. Part of our fee covers some or all of this upfront cost. Labor is the other cost factor. Depending on the difficulty and location, we could spend 3-8 hours removing a beehive.
Will you repair the damage caused during the removal process?
It depends. We do the best we can to repair damage caused by the removal process. But we are not construction handymen. We will be able to tell you if we can repair the damage or not on a case by case basis.
Do you kill the bees?
Our goal is to humanely relocate the honeybees to one of our bee yards. We will then utilize the colony to be apart of our local pollination efforts and honey production. The ONLY time we will kill a colony is when they are overly aggressive and a danger to the area. Most of the honeybees we encounter are not a high threat. However, on occasion, we do run into honeybees that are uncomfortably violent. People, pets, and livestock can be seriously injured or killed by aggressive honeybees. Because of this concern, we will destroy aggressive colonies.
